Biography of
His Excellency Bishop
Milad El Jawich

“Only say the word” (Mt 8:8)
Is the episcopal motto chosen by Bishop Milad at his ordination as Bishop of the Greek Melkite Catholics of Canada on October 30, 2021.
These words of the Centurion addressed to Jesus encapsulate nearly his entire life, vocation, and theological journey: to hold fast to Jesus’ word, believe in its power, and dedicate himself to proclaiming it to today’s generations.
Born in December 1973 in Mansoura, Lebanon⸻
Into a deeply faithful and practicing family,
Bishop Milad entered the Minor Seminary of the Basilian Salvatorian Order in October 1987 to begin a long path of discerning his priestly vocation.
After a year of novitiate and five years of philosophical and theological studies at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (Lebanon), he was ordained a priest on May 6, 2000.

PONTIFICIA UNIVERSITAS GREGORIANA
He then pursued further studies in Rome, where, after two years, he earned a Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Gregorian University.

Doctoral studies at the University of Louvain
After spending nine years in Lebanon, Bishop Milad returned to his initial passion for biblical studies and went to Belgium to pursue his doctoral studies at the University of Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve). His mission was fulfilled on October 1, 2015, with the completion of a Doctorate in Biblical Theology.
His thesis, focused on the narrative function of the disciples in the Passion of Jesus according to Mark and Luke, was an attempt to deeply explore the mystery of the Twelve's following of the Master.
Following his appointment as bishop in Canada in November 2021⸻
Bishop Milad founded the Melkite Biblical Center
and subsequently created the website *Say A Word* to further spread God's word among his people and to, with God’s grace and the support of a dedicated team, nurture a generation that loves the word of Jesus and strives to live it daily.
